Our Values

In human life, schools play an important role in shaping children, and we aim to take the best of what schools have on offer and bring them to the core of our spirit, so that every child’s life is better because of being at Ascend.

We work to inspire every child to make their learning and personal growth a continuous journey. Our commitment to this starts with our aims in our learning CIRCLE, where important elements come together to grow great people.

We aim to develop every learner's character with the following pillars:

Creative

Human beings are distinct in their ability to find new paths – new solutions, new ways of presentation, new ways of thinking, new ways of communicating and countless other new avenues. At Ascend, we provide an enabling environment by exposing learners to a range of skills and voices, thereby opening avenues to creativity, while at the same time modelling perseverance, ability to assess ideas, learning to see other possibilities, which are all key to increase the usefulness of new avenues.

Inclusive

At Ascend, we intend to have a diverse community of learners, without which the ideal ingredients for growth will be missing. Learners need exposure to different cultures and different ideas. At Ascend, we believe that diversity increases the richness of human experience, and allows one to develop and even to defend one’s own ideas. In some parts of the world, we see ideologies that aim to extinguish alternate voices, but we believe that this is the beginning of the end of those ideologies. Human beings do best in diversity and even in the face of opposing ideas. In our value of “inclusivity”, we are in a continuous effort to ensure that every child gets a large variety of chances. Every child must participate in a range of activities in order to become rounded. In our world, we hope to see introverts who develop into great public speakers, extroverts who can learn to process others perspectives, and learners whose starting point is not their ending point.

Responsible

We believe that the core of success starts with learning to take responsibility. Life, both in school and out of school is by its nature, challenging, and learning to take responsibility is the realisation that a plan is required at every stage of life. Responsibility is a key virtue in leadership and we believe that every person is a leader, be it at different levels. A person who sees themselves as a leader is conscious that every action has a consequence, and therefore a thought on consequence is required before a word is spoken or an action executed.

Caring

Human beings are vicegerents of God on earth. A person who drives benefit sees above self, and this is key to have a meaningful existence. By nurturing this perspective, learners at Ascend will learn to care for the people around them, to drive ideas that bring benefit to individuals and the community and to understand that the very existence of humanity hinges on care for the environment, and using resources for what they were intended. People who look outwards and aim to solve others' problems are less concerned by the state of their own depression or anxiety. We see developing this virtue as a key to leading a happy life – to give is to get something far more rewarding.

Logical

In the modern world, we are increasingly bombarded by different ideas – some of them adding to the value of human life, but many corrupting the spirit of life, causing those who follow them to lose their footing from leading a useful life. At the start of receiving a new idea, learners need to be able to interpret in a logical way, the source, the meaning, the intention and the natural end of every idea. This is an essential tool to remain on a positive path in life and to bring benefit to one’s self as well as to the greater community.

Ethical

If we believe that life is random and unregulated by a Higher Being, we soon see that survival hinges on the survival of the fittest, and personal goals can be achieved at the expense of group goals. This being the case, soon, nothing but personal gain has any meaning, and even that doesn’t have meaning after a while. On the other hand, spirituality infuses meaning into everything. Recognition of the fantastic scale of existent beings and the accuracy of adaptation brings to the forefront that colossal mistakes are too far-fetched to account for existence, and belief in a Creator is a far more plausible explanation. Recognising the tenderness and care in our creation needs to move us from passive wonder to an active seeking of the ethical responsibility of using our gifts in the best ways possible to lift our fellow created beings, be they human, animal, plant or even inanimate. The strong tend to the weak, who are pulled to be strong and in this way, society is lifted. At Ascend, we strongly believe that faith in God hinges human experience and allows human beings to do their best in doing good. This gives a greater meaning to life and allows higher order activities, such as philanthropy, to find firm root in every learners’ life going forward. Ethical interaction – honesty, kindness, modesty – are values that form the core of every interaction at our institution.
